1043 on St Clair at the
Highland Park car house. The box on the pole is a headway
recorder. The motorman dialed his leaving time and punched a button
that registered his punched and actual times in the central ofice on tape
If he left early, the two times would not match and he would lose a day's
pay. the first time. If he left late, it would show that, also. If
no time was registered, the attendant called the Route Foreman to find
out why the service was not on time. A fresh car would start out
from the car house to fill in the headway gap. Each terminal had
one.
