Chicago Surface Lines
CTA car 3140, repainted in green and cream, is seen on Wabash Avenue at
Roosevelt Road (12th Street) passing a red car heading north while operating on route 38-
Indiana Avenue on a southbound run from 51st Street to the Navy Pier.  This route was the southern portion of the old route 3-Lincoln-Indiana route which was broken into 2 routes on March 11, 1951, when the Lincoln portion was converted to bus operation and the old car barn at Wrightwood and Lincoln was closed.  On June 30, 1952, route 38 was relegated to rush hours only.  On May 24, 1953, route 38 was converted to bus operation along with the heavy 63rd Street PCC line and the light 67th-69th-71st car line while route 12 on Roosevelt Road, which had been converted to bus on August 12, 1951, was reconverted to trolleybus operation with the trolleybuses using the old Trailways bus terminal, which moved to a new facility in the Loop.
